Sophisticated equipment from GE to
tackle cancer early
City-based Sri Ramakrishna Institute of
Oncology and Research, today installed a sophisticated CT Scan machine, which
delivers excellent image quality.
The company developed and designed
PET-CT Scan GE-Discovery IQ, worth Rs 9 crore, at its Bengaluru plant after
continuous research for the last three to four years and got the approval from
authorities to manufacture and market the device in India, Terri Bresenham,
President and CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia, told reporters tonight.

Milan Rao, Chief Operating Officer, Wipro GE Healthcare South Asia, said the company
was pleased to demonstrate that the capability to develop the most
sophisticated medical technologies in the world existed here in India.
Director of the Institute, P Guhan,
said by the use of this technology the hospital would be able to detect cancer at
an early stage, individualise the treatment, assess treatment response and
detect cancer recurrence.
The Institute claimed that it was the
first hospital in the country to install the device.
The scan was inaugurated by
Balasubramanian, Chairman, City Union Bank Ltd, in the presence of R Vijayakumar, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable
Trust, which runs the Hospital.
