Kidwai director's appointment
challenged in high court
The high court on
Wednesday ordered notice to Karnataka's medical education minister (not named),
who also happens to be the chairman, governing council, Kidwai Memorial
Institute of Oncology.
This was in response to a
petition filed by Dr K C Lakshmaiah, challenging Dr KB Lingegowda's appointment
as director of the institute. The judge said the said appointment is subject to
the result of the petition.
According to the
petitioner, the Medical Council of India doesn't recognize palliative medicine,
the department which was headed by Lingegowda, and as such an institution like
Kidwai needs an expert in oncology as its director.
