This is the 3rd Linear Accelerator for treatment purposes, developed in India by SAMEER (Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research). According to Prof Dr Vandana Jain, though the India made Linear accelerator unit was shifted at institute in January 2013 it took time to complete all installation & commissioning processes. Permission from AERB has now been obtained.
Colonel Arup Bose, (retd) the CEO of the Indian Institute of Head and Neck Oncology said that the LA unit is under guarantee period for one year and constant service back up will be given by SAMEER.Linear accelerator has advantages in treating deep-seated cancer tumors. Skin and under the skin radiation reaction are also less frequent.
All types of cancers can be treated on this unit. The Indore Cancer Foundation will ensure that poor cancer patients benefit from this gift. The cost of treatment through Linear Accelerator at the center in Rau will be less as compared to other city-based units.
